Dear ERASMUS students

Welcome to Heinrich-Heine University, Düsseldorf (HHUD).

This information is very important to successfully register for one of our language courses and receive the CP (credit points) you may need for your home university. Please read the following points very carefully.

Please consult the university’s online course management platform HIS-LSF for the entire range of languages and courses we are offering at present. Generally speaking, these fall into one of these two categories:

Courses without placement

  • These are most of our courses. Please enrol for the course of your choice during the registration period (see table below) via HIS-LSF. You will need a valid student registration number (“Matrikelnummer”) to do this. This number can be found on your official registration documents.
  • If you do not have your “Matrikelnummer” yet or arrive late, i.e. when the registration deadline is already over, please see Ms Smotlak (25.13 room 00.39, office hours: Wed / Thu 9.30 am-12.30 pm & Tue 1-4 pm) for all language courses so we can manually take down your name for the course you wish to attend.

Courses with obligatory placement

Our goal is to find the correct language level (A2 - C1) for you – before you register for a course.

This rule applies to all French and Spanish non-beginner courses.

  • The placement is obligatory for all English courses. Language levels from your home university or language schools will not be recognized unless you are able to present a certificate from an internationally standardized test (IELTS / TOEFL / Cambridge exam).
  • Please check the table below for the dates of the placement and register for a place via HIS-SLF. If you do not have your “Matrikelnummer” yet, please come and see us so we can reserve a seat for you.
  • If you arrive late, i.e. when the regular placement is already over, there is one last opportunity to sit the placement (see table below for details).

No official admission = no participation

After the registration period is over, your status in HIS-LSF will be either ZU (admitted) or AB (rejected). It is important to note that you can only take part in a language course when you are officially admitted to do so. Our teachers are instructed to send you away if you arrive without an official admission for their respective course.

English for ERASMUS Students

The “English for ERASMUS Students” language course is run jointly by the International Office and the Language Centre of the Student Academy and is intended in the first instance for international students who are completing an ERASMUS semester at Heinrich Heine University and at the same time wish to consolidate their English language skills.
Also welcome, however, are those students who will shortly be going abroad, wish to expand their proficiency in the English language and are interested in an exchange of experience with incoming ERASMUS students.
The aim of the course is to improve general language and communication abilities through intensive training in the four skills “Listening”, “Reading”, “Speaking” and “Writing”. With regard to content, the course focuses on the requirements of the respective group. The course is held exclusively in English.
An obligatory placement test takes place prior to the course. This will be on 11.10.2019 in Building 25.41 (ZIM). Registration is via HISLSF, the University’s online calendar. If you cannot attend on that day, it is possible for you to sit an individual placement test. In this case, please contact the Language Centre under undefinedspz(at) or undefinedboes(at)
You find the dates of the courses "English for Erasmus students 1, 2 and 3" in our HISLSF. All courses last 30 weekly hours per semester. Lecturer is Shekib Akbary.
Having successfully passed the examination at the end of the course and participated regularly and actively in the course itself without missing more than two hours, students receive a Certificate of Attendance with 2 ECTS.
Should you have any questions, please contact the Language Centre of the Student Academy under undefinedspz(at)
